Customers who currently have a BT supplied ISDN service (ISDN 2/2e or Home/Business Highway) can convert this to ADSL (broadband). When the ISDN Service is installed, the customers is given a number of different telephone numbers (or DDIs) to use with their connection and before converting the service to broadband they must choose which number to keep.
The conversion process involves a visit from a BT engineer to change the equipment and convert the line. The customer must be present to allow the engineers access and he success of the conversion will depend on the quality of the line supporting the service and its' distance from the exchange.
Q: How long does it take?
A: The standard lead time for an ISDN conversion is 7 to 10 working days.
Q: Do I have to arrange for the BT Engineer to visit?
A: No, Lixxus will liase with BT for you and the engineer will call you to check when you will be home/on site.
Q: What is the conversion process?
A:
Step One
You must select one of your ISDN DDI Numbers to convert. Only in exceptional circumstances would you be allowed to keep more than one.
Step Two
Choose a service from the Lixxus website and then download the ISDN conversion form below. Complete the form and post or fax back to us (you can find our contact details under 'Contact Lixxus' above).
If you are two far from the exchange or are not connected to a broadband enabled exchange, you conversion order will be rejected (usually within 3 working days). All applications are subject to survey
Step Three
BT or Lixxus will call to arrange a convenient date for engineers to visit and then book a firm appointment. Someone will need to be present on the day of the visit to let the engineers in. Once a date has been established Lixxus will email your new connection details.
Step Four
On the day of the conversion, the engineers will attempt to convert the chosen line to a standard PSTN line and then to ADSL. Should the line not be able to support a broadband connection, the engineers will convert the line back to ISDN and no charges will be made. Should the conversion succeed, engineers will test the connection before leaving. A conversion charge will be made by BT against your BT phone bill.
Q: Will I experience any break in my service ?
A: Yes, downtime of up to 4 hours may be experienced while the line is being converted.
Q: Can I keep my existing telephone number?
A: In most cases, you will be able to keep your existing telephone number. However, you can only retain a main telephone number - if you currently have MSN (Multiple Subscriber Numbering) on your ISDN, you will not be able to retain any of these numbers. If you have Home/Business Highway, you will need to tell us which number to wish to keep.
Q: Will my directory entry change?
A: No, your directory entry will remain unchanged.
Q: I currently have Select Services (e.g. Call Waiting, Call Minder) on my Home/Business Highway line. What will happen to them?
A: These will be automatically transferred to your new PSTN line. Should you wish to change any of these services, this can be done on-line after the conversion to Broadband service by accessing www.bt.com or by contacting your normal BT Sales channel.
Q: Will my Multiple Subscriber Numbering (MSN) or other digital select services on my ISDN 2/2e or Home/Business Highway line be available?
A: No, they will no longer be available.
Q: What about my existing ISDN Terminal Adapter or Speedway card?
A: These will not work on your new telephone line. They are not needed for your ADSL service. However, you will need to purchase an ISDN modem or router (from Lixxus or otherwise).
Q: What will happen to my existing ISDN NTE socket?
A: This will be recovered at the time of the conversion.
Q: What will happen to my existing extension wiring?
A: Provided that the wiring is to the required standard, it will be connected to your new telephone line during the installation, if you request the engineer to do so.
Q: What will I be charged for the conversion?
A: You will be charged the standard connection charge for a new telephone line. Current prices can be found at BT's ServiceView website (http://www.serviceview.bt.com)*
